STUDENT LOCKER POLICY Lockers are school property made available for student use. All middle school students, grades six to eight, will be provided a locker for the storage of books, and other materials required during the school day. Locks: Each student will be given a school issued combination lock. Students should never share their combination with another student. The school will keep a master list of combinations and retain a master key. Students may not use their own locks to prevent access to lockers by school officials. Unauthorized locks may be removed without notice and destroyed. If a lock is lost, a replacement lock may be purchased at the school office for $10. Use of lockers: Students are strongly urged to secure their lockers at all times. The school does not insure personal property. Valuables and money should not be kept in the locker. The school assumes no liability for personal items left in lockers. Lockers may not be used to store items which cause or can reasonably be foreseen to cause an interference with school purposes or an educational function or which are forbidden by state law. Inspection of all lockers: An inspection of all lockers in the school or all lockers in a particular area of the school may be conducted by the principal or the assistant principal if there is a reasonable belief that such an inspection is necessary to prevent, impede or substantially reduce the risk of something that may cause a problem for health, safety or effective management of the educational process. Randomly selected lockers may be searched occasionally as a part of ongoing attempts to insure proper safety and health standards. Inspection of individual students’ lockers: The inspection of a particular students’ locker will not be conducted unless the principal or assistant principal or his/her designee has “reasonable suspicion” to believe that the locker to be inspected contains something that may cause a problem for health, safety or effective management of the educational process. ANY CONTRABAND DISCOVERED IN A SEARCH IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO WHOM THE LOCKER IS ISSUED. |
