HOMEWORK POLICY - See pages 26 - 28

Homework is an essential part of school life for students.  At Huntington Christian homework is an extension of our school program.  Homework given at H.C.S. has contributed to the school’s overall academic excellence.  Students, parents, and teachers expect homework.

1.      Each class will have a homework policy plainly communicated to the student and parent

at the beginning of the school year.

2.      Homework will aid students in developing independent study habits.

3.      Homework will not be new material to be taught by the parent but rather re-enforcement

of skills pre-taught by the teacher.  Parents are encouraged to share in their child's

learning through assistance in the practicing and reinforcing process of homework.

4.     Homework will be within the practical ability of the child.

5.     Normally, homework will not be assigned over weekends or holidays.

6.    Time Guidelines--these are meant to be guidelines and may vary depending upon many factors:

GRADING GUIDELINES AND STANDARDS

Grades are an integral part of any instructional program.  At Huntington Christian grades are intended to give as accurate a picture as possible of how a student performs in the academic work study and social areas.  Huntington Christian does not grade on a curve.  We do grade on a percentage basis.  Kindergarten through 2nd grades use the markings O, S, N while 3rd through 8th use A, B, C, etc.  The following is the percentage grade scale for Huntington Christian School.

REPORT  CARDS, POWER SCHOOL,  AND PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

Report cards will be given out at the end of each quarter.  The first report card will be given to the parent at the parent-teacher conference in November.  Report cards are to be signed by the parent and returned to the teacher (K-2 only).  You may access Power School at anytime online by typing www.my-grade.com  into your web browser’s address bar or visit the HCS website ( www.hcsonline.org ) and click onto the Power School link on the left-hand side of the home page and type in your child’s username and password.

HONOR ROLL

Honor Roll is figured for grades 6 through 8.  The main areas of consideration are:  Bible, Language, History, Reading, Spelling, Math and Science.  The grades in these areas and their sub categories, if any, are added up using a grade point equivalent listed at the bottom of the page.  The grade points are added together and divided by the number of categories included.  The result is the student's grade point average (G.P.A.).

Gold Honor Roll recognizes a student with a G.P.A. of 3.75 or higher.

A student is on Honor Roll with a 3.50 - 3.74 G.P.A.

A student will receive the Principal’s Award with a 3.0 - 3.49 G.P.A.

No student is allowed on Honor Roll or Gold Honor Roll if they have a grade of "N" in any subject or for any citizenship grade regardless of their G.P.A.
