Q:  Is HCS affiliated with a church?

A:  Yes.  Huntington Christian School is a ministry of First Christian Church of Huntington Beach.  For further information about our sponsoring church you may go to  www.fcchb.com or call the church office at 714-536-2589.

 

Q:  What grades does HCS have?

A:  HCS has grades kindergarten through eighth.

 

Q:  What are the qualifications and experience of the teaching staff?

A:  HCS is blessed with a teaching staff that has many years of experience.  Our average teacher has been in the classroom for 10 years.  Teaching experience ranges from one to 24 years.  At present our teachers all have a state teaching credential.

 

Q:  What are the school hours?

A:  All grades begin at 8:45 a.m.  Kindergarten is dismissed at 1:45 p.m. and grades 1st to 8th are dismissed at 2:45 p.m.

 

Q:  What is the enrollment at HCS?  What is the class size limit?

A:  Enrollment for 2006-2007 is about 520 students.  HCS has a policy that limits our class size to a maximum of 24 students per class.

 

Q:  Besides the basics what additional subjects are taught?

A:  HCS places an important emphasis on the academic and spiritual growth of our students.  We offer P.E., Spanish, art, music and computer classes to our students as part of the regular curriculum.

 

Q:  Do you provide before and after school day care for students?

A:  Yes.  We call it Kid’s Overtime.  This is available for any student enrolled in our school.  Kid’s Overtime opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.

 

Q:  Does HCS do academic testing to measure student success?

A:  Yes.  All students, grades first through eighth, are given the Stanford Achievement Test in the month of April.  Our average student tests about 1 to 5 years above the National Average.

 

Q:  What is the registration process?

A:  Contact the school office at (714) 378-9932 for complete information.  All parents must attend a “New Parent Coffee.”  The Coffees are held in the spring to explain the entire process for the following fall.  Students entering kindergarten must be five years old by September 1.  All new students are tested to assure that they will succeed at the specific grade level.  Students entering grades one to eight must also have a Student Recommendation form completed by the previous school.
