September 13-15, 2017 all of Middle School will go to Pine Summit in Big Bear, CA for our annual Engage retreat. We will send specific information in the summer newsletters that we will email around the 1st of each month. We expect that all of our students will attend this event. The cost is free for our students. If for some reason, your child will not be attending Engage, they will need to stay at home on those days and you will still need to fill out 3 of the 4 forms, Please select "No, I do not give permission for my child to attend".

Summer Reading Assignments
Each summer we ask our students to read and prepare and assignment that is due on the first day of school. An email was sent in June that outlined the information about the book selection, assignment, and AR requirements. If you did not receive this email, please click on the link to Summer Reading Assignment. There is a written component and the directions are listed in the Summer Novel Written Book Report link. We are excited to implement Chromebooks into our middle school community. We have piloted a number of programs the past few years and we are happy to deploy Chromebooks to all of our middle school students. We understands that mobile electronic computing devices are tools that can be used to expand student's learning opportunities. Mobile computing opens limitless possibilities; users may go virtually anywhere and interact with anyone. With this opportunity comes responsibility. Use of the Huntington Christian School network and its related computer facilities is a privilege afforded to members of the school community. Therefore, the school provides a set of guidelines for security and acceptable use of technology. All students and parents will need to fill out are Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) form online before the Chromebook can be issued to the student. In addition, we feel it is a great time for families to develop a home AUP as well. We have provided links to the HCS AUP and a link to a home form that can help you set up an HAUP at home as well.
We will be deploying Chromebooks to students during normal office hours of 9am to 3pm on August 23-25. If students can not pick up on these days, they will receive their Chromebook the first day of school. In order for students to be eligible to pick up their Chromebook, they must be paid in full and have filled out the Huntington Christian School AUP.

Some students are looking to purchas backpacks or cases for their Chromebook. The dementions are 12" x 8.5" by >1". If you are looking for a fitted case please be sure to select the correct model.

There will be a change in elective this year for 7th and 8th grade. 6th Grade will still have their "selectives" which is a rotation of Study Skills, Art, Computers, and Music. In looking at our schedule and how we best utilize the learning of our students, we have added Academic Prep two days a week for every middle school student. This will allow students to complete assignments, study, and ask questions. We know many of you have busy schedules after school and we hope this helps to free up time. It will be important that students understand that they will be expected to work during these periods.
One exception is Yearbook. If 7th or 8th grade students are interested in creating the yearbook, they may sign up here. The yearbook elective will take the place of Academic Prep for the first 3 quarters and during the 4th quarter it will return to Academic Prep. Not all students will be selected who sign up, but if you are interested, please fill out the form by Aug. 11, 2017.
New Bell Schedule
For this next year we have made a few changes to the schedule. The beginning and ending times are the same but we have added a period to the schedule. Another change is lunch will be at 12:15 to 12:55pm. This earlier time will help the students be able to avoid starvation.
